Political Row Erupts Over LPG Diversion in Himachal Pradesh
A significant political controversy has ignited in the tribal district of Lahaul and Spiti, Himachal Pradesh, following allegations by former MLA and BJP state executive member Ravi Thakur. He has accused the state government of neglecting the region by diverting commercial LPG cylinders from its quota to Manali. Additionally, he claimed that over 80% of eligible women in the district are not receiving pension benefits, vowing that residents would respond to these "anti-tribal decisions" in upcoming panchayat and Assembly elections.

In response to the allegations, local MLA Anuradha Rana clarified that the diversion of commercial LPG cylinders was a temporary arrangement, a common practice during crises. She stated, "BJP leader Ravi Thakur should ask his party leaders, who are ruling at the Centre, because it is the Union Government that provides LPG supply. It is a failure of PM Modi’s foreign policy." Rana assured that adequate domestic LPG supply is being maintained in Lahaul-Spiti, with necessary directions issued to concerned departments for close monitoring.
The district administration, led by Deputy Commissioner Kiran Bhadana, has ruled out any shortage of domestic LPG cylinders. An official order has been issued to ensure smooth transportation, distribution, and availability of LPG in the district. Authorities have directed Subdivisional Magistrates and the Superintendent of Police to strictly monitor LPG transportation routes and distribution centers to prevent law and order issues. The order also mandates measures to curb hoarding and black marketing, with regular inspections planned.
