Chaos prevailed during the BA fourth semester philosophy examination at Lucknow University (LU) on Wednesday due to confusion over a question paper. Students claimed that they were given a question paper for 'western philosophy,' whereas as per schedule, the examination was of 'western ethical philosophy.'
Student Complaints and Protest
The examination was conducted peacefully, but later some students submitted a written complaint to the vice-chancellor. According to the complaint, the 'western philosophy' paper given on Wednesday was actually scheduled for May 8. Students also staged a protest outside the university's administrative building and demanded a re-examination.
University's Response
Denying the claims made by students, LU spokesperson Mukul Srivastava said, "The examinations were conducted as per the schedule. The 'western ethical philosophy' is a minor subject and 'western philosophy' is a major. Separate examination schedules are issued for major and minor papers. Both were revised and updated on the LU website well in advance."
Authorities emphasized that the examination schedule was revised and updated on the LU website, which apparently went unnoticed by the students. The university maintains that there was no error on its part and that the students should have checked the updated schedule.
This incident highlights the importance of regular communication between the university and students regarding schedule changes. As of now, the university has not announced any decision on the students' demand for a re-examination.
