Lucknow Demolition Drive Halted Amid Builder Resistance in Chinhat
A demolition operation conducted by the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) targeting illegal plotting in the Chinhat area on Monday was abruptly halted after facing intense resistance from builders and their associates. The confrontation forced the LDA team to suspend the drive midway, highlighting ongoing challenges in enforcing urban development regulations.
Operation Details and Court-Ordered Action
The LDA team had arrived at a site near Kisan Path to execute a court-ordered action against an unauthorized colony sprawling across nearly seven acres. Officials, armed with bulldozers, began demolishing illegal structures as part of a crackdown on illicit land use. However, the operation quickly turned chaotic when a group of individuals gathered at the location and attempted to disrupt the proceedings.
Violent Confrontation and Team Withdrawal
According to officials, the crowd surrounded the LDA team and allegedly pelted stones at a JCB machine, creating a panic-stricken atmosphere at the site. As tensions escalated, the situation became increasingly volatile, prompting the team to withdraw to prevent any further escalation of violence. This incident underscores the risks faced by authorities in tackling illegal construction activities in urban areas.
Future Plans and Police Protection
Zonal officer Devansh Trivedi confirmed that the demolition drive will be resumed with enhanced security measures. He stated that the LDA plans to conduct the operation again, this time with adequate police protection to ensure safety and compliance. This move aims to address the illegal plotting issue while mitigating potential conflicts with resistant parties.
The event in Lucknow reflects broader issues related to unauthorized colonies and the enforcement of development laws, emphasizing the need for coordinated efforts between authorities and law enforcement to maintain order during such operations.
