As the summer heat steadily climbs in Lucknow, a parallel crisis is unfolding in households across the city: a severe shortage of LPG cylinder refills. With no significant relief in sight, citizens are forced to brave the scorching sun, standing in long queues at gas agencies, as the simmering fuel crunch disrupts daily life.
Widespread Queues and Delivery Uncertainties Plague the City
On a recent Saturday, the scene was all too familiar—multiple queues snaked outside gas agencies throughout Lucknow. Delayed deliveries have left consumers waiting for hours with empty cylinders, hoping for a refill. While some managed to secure their gas, many returned home disappointed, exacerbating the frustration.
At the Vikasnagar Mini Stadium, where a temporary distribution point has been established, Rakesh Mishra endured a nearly four-hour wait. "I booked the cylinder two days ago, but it was never delivered," he shared. "Despite having diabetes and high blood pressure, I stood here for hours because there's no certainty about when it will arrive." His ordeal reflects similar reports from areas like Rajajipuram, Telibagh, Lalkuan, Lalbagh, and Sadar.
Residents Forced to Take Matters Into Their Own Hands
Despite booking refills through phone or online systems, home delivery remains unreliable, compelling residents to visit agency godowns or chase distribution vehicles. In Rajajipuram, several people rushed to refill trucks instead of waiting passively. Ram Chander, for instance, went to the Saraswati Gas Agency's truck at MIS Crossing after a three-day wait. "I couldn't risk another day without gas," he explained.
Many consumers are also visiting agencies to obtain booking receipts, allowing them to pick up refills directly. Others queue up to complete KYC formalities mandated by agencies. Reshma Bano of Rajajipuram noted that her son booked a refill via IVRS but still had to visit the agency for the receipt. "The booking was done on the phone, but we had no idea when delivery would happen," she said.
City-Wide Impact and Growing Concerns
At Lajpatnagar, Aman Usmani highlighted the lack of alternatives. "We tried calling booking numbers repeatedly, but there was no response," he stated. "Many residents ended up waiting for hours just to get a refill." Similar scenes have been reported across Lucknow, with consumers lining up with cylinders as concerns over delayed LPG deliveries mount.
