Lucknow: Students and teachers of Vidya Mandir Girls High School staged a protest outside their institution on Saturday following reports that the school may be shut down. The 90-year-old school, which has 250 students, faces an uncertain future due to a legal dispute that threatens its closure.
Students Fear Loss of Education
The fate of all 250 students hangs in the balance as the legal battle continues. Aastha Kumari, a class nine student, expressed her anxiety, stating, "We do not know where we will study now. We have a right to education." Similarly, Priya Sharma, a class ten student, voiced concerns about board examinations, saying, "If the school remains closed, we may not be able to appear in board exams." Another class ten student, Riya Singh, highlighted the uncertainty, noting that they do not know where to go for classes after the summer vacation. She urged Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to intervene and save the institution.
Political Intervention and Official Response
Samajwadi Party MLA Ravidas Mehrotra visited the protest site and criticized the potential closure, stating that it contradicts the government's "Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao" (Educate the Daughter, Save the Daughter) initiative. Meanwhile, District Inspector of Schools Devendra Kumar Pandey assured that the matter is being looked into. He added that the next hearing of the case is scheduled for July 2 in the district court.
The protest highlights the critical role of educational institutions in the community and the need for swift resolution to ensure students' academic continuity.
