Lucknow: The respite from scorching heat continued for the second consecutive day on Saturday, bringing much-needed relief to residents. Similar conditions are expected to persist for the next two days, after which temperatures will gradually rise again.
Temperature and Humidity Details
The maximum temperature on Saturday settled at 34 degrees Celsius, which is 6.1 units below the normal level, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 24.5 degrees Celsius, a degree below normal. Relative humidity remained high, oscillating between 47% and 79%, contributing to the comfortable weather.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Lucknow, Sunday's maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 33 and 24 degrees Celsius, respectively. The morning will be partly cloudy, with cloud cover increasing as the day progresses.
Thunderstorm Alert for Sunday
The IMD has forecast one or two spells of thundershowers in the afternoon or evening, accompanied by lightning and winds measuring 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions.
Statewide Temperature Trends
Most parts of Uttar Pradesh experienced a drop in mercury levels by 4 to 7 degrees Celsius on Saturday. Some regions were lashed by thunder or dust storms. Moradabad recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 38.5 degrees Celsius, followed by Fatehgarh at 38 degrees and Lakhimpur Kheri at 37 degrees. Etawah and Gorakhpur recorded the lowest maximum temperatures at 32.6 degrees Celsius each, while Barabanki recorded 33.5 degrees Celsius.
Senior scientist Mohammad Danish of IMD Lucknow stated, "Thunderstorms accompanied by winds of 80-90 kmph are expected to lash several places in the state on Sunday. The wind gust at isolated areas may reach up to 100 kmph." He explained that the change in weather conditions is being driven by a western disturbance and moisture-laden easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal. Similar weather conditions are expected across parts of Uttar Pradesh for the next few days.
End of Heatwave, But Temporary
Meteorologists noted that the current weather system has temporarily ended the heatwave in the state. However, temperatures will start rising gradually at the beginning of June and are expected to increase by 5 to 7 degrees Celsius in the first week, thereby reviving intense hot conditions.
