Lucknow witnessed a significant drop in temperatures on Friday following an overnight thunderstorm, providing much-needed relief from the scorching heat that had persisted for the past 15 days. The relief from intense heat is expected to continue on Friday.
Temperature Details
The maximum temperature recorded was 33 degrees Celsius, which is 7.1 units below normal, while the minimum temperature also dipped to 20.9 degrees Celsius, 4.6 notches below normal. Until Wednesday, the maximum temperatures had been hovering between 40 and 43 degrees Celsius, and the minimum between 27 and 29 degrees Celsius.
Thunderstorm and Rainfall
The thunderstorm struck in the early hours of Friday, with strong gusty winds accompanied by lightning and rainfall lashing many parts of the city. A total of 17 mm of rainfall was recorded at the State Meteorological headquarters in Amausi.
Forecast for the Weekend
According to weather officials, one or two spells of thunderstorms and light rain are expected on Saturday and Sunday. The change in weather conditions was attributed to a shift in wind patterns due to a western disturbance hovering over Afghanistan, along with moisture feeding into the state's atmosphere from the sea, said Mohammad Danish, senior scientist at the India Meteorological Centre.
He added that the sky will be partly cloudy during the day on Saturday, with cloud cover increasing as the day progresses. There is a possibility of a spell of rain or thundershower accompanied by gusty winds. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 33 and 23 degrees Celsius, respectively.
