Maharashtra CEO Reviews Nagpur Electoral Roll Prep, Warns Officials Over Lapses

Chief Electoral Officer S Chockalingam chaired a critical review meeting in Nagpur on Wednesday to evaluate the preparedness for the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, scheduled to commence in April. The meeting focused on ensuring a smooth and efficient rollout of the revision exercise across Maharashtra.

Timely Execution and Preparatory Tasks Emphasized

Chockalingam directed officials to complete essential preparatory tasks within the next 10 days. These tasks include comprehensive mapping of voters, thorough verification processes, and ensuring the readiness of all required equipment. He stressed that timely execution is paramount to avoid any disruptions during the SIR exercise.

Strict Action Threatened Against Erring Officials

Concerns were raised regarding the functioning of Booth Level Officers (BLOs), with reports indicating significant lapses in field-level work. Similar issues were flagged concerning the performance of some Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AROs).
