Maharashtra Government Launches Comprehensive Drought Preparedness Measures
The Maharashtra government has initiated extensive preparations to tackle a potential drought situation, placing the entire administrative machinery on high alert. Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule announced that planning measures have begun in view of a possible drought-like scenario triggered by the anticipated El Niño impact.
Administrative Mobilization and High-Level Reviews
Speaking to media in Nagpur, Bawankule revealed that all guardian ministers were directed to take necessary steps at a recent cabinet meeting. Following this directive, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis personally reviewed the situation with district collectors across the state. The government has scheduled a detailed meeting on drought preparedness to assess various aspects and finalize the response strategy.
The El Niño phenomenon, known for disrupting normal weather patterns and potentially causing reduced rainfall, has prompted this proactive approach from the state administration. Maharashtra's agricultural sector and water resources are particularly vulnerable to such climatic events, making early intervention crucial.

Turning to political matters, Bawankule launched a sharp attack on the Congress party regarding the issue of women's reservation. "Congress has betrayed 'Ladki Bahin', and the public will respond to this attitude," he stated emphatically.
The minister alleged that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expanded opportunities for women in Parliament, the Congress has worked to prevent women from Scheduled Castes, Other Backward Classes, and other marginalized sections from advancing politically. This criticism comes amid ongoing national debates about gender representation in legislative bodies.
Addressing Local Concerns and Sensitive Cases
On the issue of missing tribal girls in Yavatmal district, Bawankule confirmed that the matter is being handled by the home department and is under the direct attention of Chief Minister Fadnavis. Describing it as a serious concern for the Vidarbha region, he noted that Tribal Development Minister Ashok Uike is closely monitoring the situation.
Regarding the Riyaz Qazi religious conversion case in Nagpur, Bawankule said police took strict action in what he described as a serious matter with potentially wide repercussions. He emphasized that timely intervention helped contain the situation and prevent further escalation.
Concerning the Paratwada case, Bawankule urged caution, stating, "Until complete official information emerges, allegations and counter-allegations should be avoided." He appealed to all sections of society to ensure that such sensitive issues do not create communal tension or disturb the atmosphere in Amravati, while confirming that a thorough police investigation is underway.

The minister also addressed the sub-categorization issue, indicating that a decision would be taken after discussions with representatives of the Matang community.
