Maharashtra Minister Zirwal's Viral Video with Transwoman Ignites Political Firestorm

Maharashtra Food and Drugs Administration Minister Narhari Zirwal has been embroiled in a significant controversy following the emergence of a viral video on social media featuring him with a transwoman. The opposition Congress party has seized upon the incident, demanding the immediate sacking of the NCP leader over what they term as "obscene and unethical behaviour."

Congress Condemns Minister's Conduct as Moral Decline

The Congress party has alleged that the video depicts Zirwal in a compromising position with the transwoman at his official residence. In a strong statement, Congress leaders have condemned the incident, labeling it a glaring example of moral degradation in Maharashtra's political landscape. They argue that such actions by a public representative entrusted with taxpayer funds and public trust are utterly condemnable.

Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar suggested that the video's release is linked to internal strife within the ruling coalition, describing it as part of a "gang war" among allies. He expressed shame over the situation, drawing parallels to other recent scandals in the state, such as the case involving self-styled godman Ashok Kharat.

Allegations of Blackmail and Demands for Probe

According to Wadettiwar, preliminary information indicates that the video was allegedly made viral by the transwoman's brother as part of a blackmail attempt. He emphasized that Zirwal's actions at his government accommodation were unequivocally wrong, regardless of the circumstances.

Maharashtra Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal echoed these sentiments in a social media post, calling the video a blot on public life. He stressed that elected officials must adhere to basic ethical standards and demanded Chief Minister Eknath Shinde take swift action by removing Zirwal from his ministerial position.

Political Reactions and Silence from Allies

When approached for comment, NCP (SP) leader Jayant Patil declined to address the controversial video, stating he had not viewed it and needed more details before forming an opinion. This reticence highlights the sensitive nature of the issue within the ruling alliance.

Social activist Anjali Damania also weighed in, criticizing Zirwal for failing to maintain propriety, especially in government housing. She asserted that the video appears to have been shot and disseminated with blackmail intentions, calling for a thorough investigation into the matter.

Background of Previous Controversies

This incident is not Zirwal's first brush with controversy. Last month, opposition parties demanded his resignation following bribery allegations involving his office staff. The Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested an FDA clerk for accepting a Rs 35,000 bribe at the state secretariat, leading to the removal of Zirwal's private secretary in connection with the sting operation.

The unfolding scandal underscores ongoing tensions in Maharashtra politics, with ethical conduct and public accountability taking center stage in the debate.
