Maharashtra Government Disburses Rs 636 Crore Under MLALAD Programme for 2025-26
The Maharashtra government has officially released a substantial sum of Rs 636 crore under the MLA Local Area Development Programme (MLALAD) for the fiscal year 2025-26. This significant allocation provides Rs 2 crore each to a total of 318 legislators from both houses of the state legislature, ensuring widespread development initiatives across Maharashtra.
Detailed Breakdown of Fund Distribution Across Legislators
The comprehensive fund release covers 266 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) and 52 Members of the Legislative Council (MLCs). Specifically, MLAs have been allocated a combined total of Rs 532 crore, while MLCs received Rs 104 crore. This structured distribution aims to empower elected representatives to address local infrastructure and community needs effectively.
Nagpur District Emerges as a Key Beneficiary with Rs 30 Crore Allocation
In Nagpur district, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is among the 12 MLAs listed as recipients of the MLALAD funds. Together, these 12 Nagpur MLAs and three MLCs have been allocated an impressive Rs 30 crore, highlighting the region's priority in the state's development agenda. This allocation is expected to fuel numerous local projects and enhance public amenities in the district.
Vidarbha Region Receives Rs 150 Crore, with Detailed Divisional Allocations
Across all 11 districts of the Vidarbha region, the total allocation under the MLALAD programme amounts to Rs 150 crore. The Nagpur division alone accounts for Rs 76 crore, distributed as follows:
- Nagpur district: Rs 30 crore
- Chandrapur: Rs 14 crore, with Cabinet minister Sudhir Mungantiwar among the six MLAs receiving funds
- Wardha: Rs 10 crore
- Gondia and Bhandara: Rs 8 crore each
- Gadchiroli: Rs 6 crore
The Amravati division, comprising Amravati, Yavatmal, Akola, Washim, and Buldhana districts, accounts for the remaining Rs 74 crore in Vidarbha. The allocations here are:
- Amravati district: Rs 18 crore
- Buldhana: Rs 16 crore
- Yavatmal and Akola: Rs 14 crore each
- Washim: Rs 12 crore
Administrative Framework and Implementation Guidelines
The released funds have been placed under the charge of district collectors, who also serve as member secretaries of their respective district planning committees. A government resolution (GR) has directed these collectors to distribute the funds immediately, in strict accordance with a previous GR dated July 12, 2016. This ensures a streamlined and transparent process for fund utilization, aimed at timely execution of development projects.
The MLALAD programme continues to be a critical tool for grassroots development in Maharashtra, enabling legislators to directly contribute to the improvement of their constituencies through targeted financial support.
