Main suspect in Tripura shooting arrested after dramatic court surrender

Agartala: The main suspect in a shooting incident at a businessman’s house in Bishalgarh over a month ago was arrested in a dramatic turn of events at the Bishalgarh court in Tripura’s Sepahijala district on Monday, police said.

Ranabir Debnath, who had been absconding, suddenly emerged at the court complex and took off his clothes before sitting on a dharna, drawing the attention of onlookers and officials, police said.

His behaviour created an atmosphere of tension and confusion, with sources suggesting he was in an inebriated state and making erratic statements. Security personnel had to intervene to control the situation.

Debnath later surrendered to the police, who promptly arrested him in connection with the shooting incident.

An interrogation is underway with officials of Bishalgarh Police Station working to find out his motives and any involvement of accomplices.

The arrest has sparked discussion in the local community, not only due to the gravity of the shooting but also because of the dramatic circumstances surrounding the suspect’s surrender.
