Maize sowing in Davangere district has picked up pace following recent rainfall but remains below the seasonal target, according to Joint Director of Agriculture Ziaullah Khan.
Rainfall Boosts Sowing Activity
Speaking to DH, Khan said that after a prolonged dry spell in June, several parts of the district received good rainfall during the first week of July. This has encouraged farmers to accelerate maize planting.
However, the overall sown area is still lower than the target set for this season. The district administration is monitoring the situation closely and expects sowing to reach normal levels if rains continue.
Impact on Farmers and Crop Outlook
Maize is a key crop in Davangere, and timely sowing is critical for yield. The delay due to June's dry spell had raised concerns, but the July rains have provided some relief.
Khan added that the agriculture department is providing necessary support to farmers, including advisories on seed varieties and pest management. Further updates will be issued based on rainfall patterns.
