Tragic Outcome of Village Land Dispute
A violent confrontation that erupted during an unofficial village court meeting in Kaliachak, Malda, on Thursday morning resulted in one fatality and left six individuals with serious injuries.
The conflict originated from a long-standing dispute between two groups of villagers from Rajnagar concerning land tilling rights in the Ganga river char area.
Escalation of Tensions
The situation intensified on Wednesday when one faction allegedly drove a tractor through the other group's maize fields, followed by an assault on one person.
In an attempt to resolve the escalating conflict, community members organized a kangaroo court at Rajnagar Model Madrasa. The gathering included local Trinamool functionaries Samsul Sk, Moktar Sk, and Manirul Sk.
Before any peaceful resolution could be achieved, the meeting descended into chaos as both groups engaged in physical confrontation, eventually resorting to weapons.
Casualties and Police Response
Ekramul Sk, 45, sustained severe injuries during the violence and was immediately transported to Kaliachak Hospital. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries during transit.
Among the critically injured was Badsha Sk, who required transfer to Malda Medical College and Hospital for advanced medical treatment.
Sariul Sk, a relative of the deceased, has publicly accused Samsul Sk and others of planning and executing the attack.
Malda police chief Pradeep Yadav confirmed that seven individuals have been detained in connection with the incident as investigations continue.
