Mamata Banerjee Accuses Centre of Delimitation Plan to Trifurcate West Bengal
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has launched a scathing attack against the central government, alleging a deliberate plan to carry out a delimitation exercise aimed at trifurcating the state. Speaking at poll rallies in Chhatna and Onda within Bankura district on Sunday, the Trinamool Congress supremo warned that this move could lead to parts of West Bengal being merged with neighboring Bihar and Odisha, resulting in significant hardships for Bengali residents in those areas.
Allegations of State Division and Political Deals
"The BJP is planning to introduce a delimitation bill to divide West Bengal into three separate parts. They may merge sections of our state with Bihar or Odisha, which would ultimately lead to the torture of Bengalis living there," Mamata Banerjee declared during her address. She emphasized that this strategy is part of a broader political conspiracy to undermine the state's integrity and disrupt its demographic balance.
In a more explosive claim, the Chief Minister alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party has struck a massive Rs 1,000-crore deal specifically designed to unseat the Trinamool Congress from power in West Bengal. This accusation appears to reference a recently viral video featuring Aam Janata Unnayan Party chief Humayun Kabir, who was purportedly heard stating that he maintains close contact with BJP leaders, including Suvendu Adhikari, to remove Mamata from power. According to the video, Kabir claimed to have received Rs 200 crore as an advance payment out of a total Rs 1,000-crore agreement aimed at splitting minority votes to defeat the TMC in upcoming elections.
Complaints About Electoral Conduct and Security Forces
Mamata Banerjee further criticized the conduct of central security forces deployed in West Bengal for the forthcoming polls, accusing them of "disrespecting" women under the guise of conducting searches. She expressed deep concern over what she described as discriminatory treatment in obtaining permissions for political rallies, noting that while her own rally faced denial despite venue availability, quick clearance was granted for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's meeting.
The TMC leader also made serious allegations regarding electoral malpractice, accusing the BJP of bribing voters ahead of elections and labeling the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls as "the country's biggest scam in recent times." She asserted, "The SIR represents the largest scam witnessed by this nation in contemporary history. The entire world is aware that your government will collapse in 2026. At that time, we will repeal all anti-people laws enacted by your administration."
Warnings About Voting Manipulation and Unfulfilled Promises
Drawing parallels with previous elections, Mamata Banerjee pointed to the Bihar polls as evidence of the BJP's tendency to forget promises after voting concludes. "The BJP routinely bribes voters before elections but conveniently abandons their commitments once polling ends. This pattern was clearly observable during the Bihar elections," she remarked.
The Chief Minister issued a stern warning about potential manipulation of the polling process, urging citizens to remain vigilant regarding voting machines. "Maintain high alertness concerning the voting machines. The BJP has orchestrated plans for slow voting and delayed counting processes. We must thwart all their schemes," Banerjee advised supporters.
In a particularly vivid allegation, she claimed that the BJP intends to offer "spiked tea and sweets" to voters, suggesting that consumption would cause drowsiness and enable vote theft. "They are plotting to serve you adulterated tea and sweets that could induce sleep, allowing them to loot your votes. Exercise extreme caution," she cautioned.
Questioning Employment Promises and Government Vacancies
Mamata Banerjee also challenged the BJP's electoral promise of filling government department vacancies, directly questioning Prime Minister Modi's earlier commitment. "What became of his assurance to provide 2 crore jobs for the youth?" she asked, highlighting perceived gaps between political rhetoric and tangible outcomes.
Through these multifaceted allegations, the West Bengal Chief Minister has positioned herself firmly against what she characterizes as systematic efforts to destabilize her state's political landscape, compromise electoral integrity, and undermine regional autonomy ahead of critical elections.
