Kolkata: With the Bhowanipore constituency in focus, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday convened a meeting with eight Kolkata Municipal Corporation councillors, party ward presidents, her chief election agent, and several Trinamool Congress leaders to finalize last-minute arrangements for counting day.
Meeting at Kalighat Residence
The meeting took place at Mamata Banerjee's Kalighat residence and was attended by Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim, among others. Speaking to a vernacular news channel, Hakim asserted that Mamata Banerjee would win from Bhowanipore by a huge margin. He stated that the Trinamool Congress has worked for the welfare of the people throughout the year and predicted that Mamata would take oath as the state's chief minister for the fourth consecutive term.
Virtual Briefing with Counting Agents
On Saturday, Mamata Banerjee and TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee held a virtual meeting with counting agents from all 291 assembly seats where the party is contesting. They emphasized that agents should regularly update the leadership about the situation at counting centers and remain present until the end of the counting process.
Dismissal of Exit Polls
Dismissing exit poll results, Mamata Banerjee claimed that they were conducted to manipulate the stock market. She told party colleagues, including counting agents, that the Trinamool Congress is winning and would secure over 200 seats. The Chief Minister also advised them not to be anxious if postal ballot results initially go against TMC. Both Mamata and Abhishek repeatedly highlighted what they described as the BJP's misuse of the Election Commission and the selective targeting of party workers and supporters. At one point, Mamata promised to reward all party workers who fearlessly withstood such attacks and fought for the party.
