Mamata Banerjee Alleges Election Commission Bias in West Bengal Polls

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched a scathing attack on the Election Commission during a rally in Bethuadahari, Nadia, on Monday, accusing it of acting as a "puppet of the BJP." She cited the state's chief electoral officer's recent visit to Nandigram as evidence of collusion with the saffron party.

CEO's Nandigram Visit Sparks Controversy

Banerjee claimed that the chief electoral officer's trip to Nandigram over the weekend, which she said was "accompanied by BJP netas," indicated he was "in cahoots with the saffron party." She questioned whether there would be a democratic retaliation against such actions, emphasizing her concerns about electoral fairness.

Allegations of Disciplinary Actions and Security Disparities

The CM further alleged that the Election Commission is unfairly targeting her party members. "FIRs are being lodged against protesting BLOs. BDOs of other communities are being suspended. Disciplinary actions are being taken. You are simply acting as BJP's puppet," she stated. Banerjee also highlighted security disparities, noting that while massive protection is provided to BJP leaders, Trinamool functionaries face reduced security.

Criticism of Suvendu Adhikari's Nomination Filing

Banerjee mocked state leader of opposition Suvendu Adhikari, claiming he managed only 16 people from Bhowanipore during his nomination filing for that constituency. She alleged that people were hired for Rs 500 to accompany him and predicted his defeat in the upcoming elections.

Transfers of Officers and Alleged Understanding with Tamil Nadu Parties

The CM accused the BJP of having an understanding with both the DMK and Congress in Tamil Nadu, citing the transfer of her officers to that state. She questioned the rationale behind moving almost all officers from Bengal, expressing worries about development work and law and order.

Claims of Illegal Activities and Central Forces' Role

Banerjee alleged that the transfers are facilitating outsiders from states like UP and MP to enter Bengal with illegal cash, drugs, and arms. She warned that central forces, such as CRPF, would be used as "BJP's agents" to rig polls, referencing incidents in Bihar where fake votes were cast. She urged voters to remain vigilant and protest if necessary, especially regarding body checks on women.
