Mamata Banerjee's Residence, Office Under Security Lockdown

KOLKATA: Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee's residence in Kolkata's Kalighat and her office at Nabanna were placed under an unprecedented security lockdown on Monday. This development came as Bengal's chief secretary, Dushyant Nariala, issued a directive to all departmental heads, instructing them to ensure that no official documents are removed, damaged, or copied without proper authorisation.

Security Deployment Amid Election Trends

Long before the final results of the assembly polls were declared, central paramilitary forces had encircled Nabanna and increased vigilance outside the chief minister's Kalighat residence. Additionally, security was tightened at the home of Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee by Monday afternoon. The deployment coincided with celebrations by BJP supporters in parts of Kalighat and sporadic reports of tension across the state, as trends indicated that the Trinamool Congress was facing a significant defeat.

Chief Secretary's Order on Document Protection

The chief secretary's order stated: "All Departmental Secretaries and Head of Offices are requested to ensure that no important paper or any file is removed, damaged, or otherwise taken out from the offices. No unauthorised copying or scanning shall be permitted. All files, important papers, and communication shall be properly accounted for. The Head of Departments and Departmental Secretaries shall personally ensure that this is followed in letter and spirit." Quick response teams were also deployed at the main offices of key government departments.
