A man who had been absconding for nearly seven years in connection with a theft case registered at Uppinangady police station was arrested in Panambur on Friday. The Uppinangady police had registered a case under Sections 457 and 380 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the accused, identified as Akram, also known as Boja Akram, a resident of Kasba Bengre in Mangaluru. He had been evading arrest for approximately seven years and had failed to appear before the court for trial.
Arrest and Legal Proceedings
The arrest was made by a team from the Uppinangady police station, led by Investigation-2 PSI Kaushik BC, along with staff members HC Shivarama Rai and PC Mahadeva. The team traced the accused to Panambur in Mangaluru and successfully apprehended him. Following the arrest, Akram was produced before the court, which subsequently remanded him in judicial custody.
Additional Cases Against the Accused
It has been revealed that the accused has multiple cases registered against him at different police stations. Three cases are registered at Panambur police station, and one case is registered at Ullal police station. The authorities are continuing their investigation into these matters.
The arrest marks the end of a prolonged search for the accused, who had been on the run since the theft case was filed. The police have urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in bringing fugitives to justice.
