Mumbai: Auto and taxi drivers who learn Marathi will be issued a state government certificate, and production of the certificate will be mandatory at the time of licence renewal, said transport minister Pratap Sarnaik on Tuesday after a meeting with heads of all 59 Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) across Maharashtra.
Training Facilities at RTOs
Sarnaik stated that facilities would be created at RTOs for drivers willing to learn Marathi. The training will be conducted jointly with Konkan Marathi Sahitya Parishad and Mumbai Marathi Sahitya Sangh. This initiative aims to promote the use of Marathi among drivers and enhance communication with passengers.
Implementation Details
The certificate will be issued upon successful completion of the training. Drivers will need to present this certificate during the renewal of their driving licences. The move is expected to encourage drivers to learn the local language, thereby improving their interaction with the public.
