In a fiery address on Monday, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya launched a sharp attack against opposition parties, accusing them of peddling false narratives about the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) stance on the Constitution and reservation policies.
BJP's Constitutional Commitment vs Opposition's "Misinformation"
Maurya, a senior BJP leader, categorically denied the opposition's allegations that the party plans to abolish the reservation system or the Constitution itself. He stated emphatically that the BJP holds the Constitution in the highest regard. "The opposition is spreading misinformation that the BJP will abolish reservations and the Constitution, but they should know that the BJP will worship the Constitution," Maurya declared in Prayagraj. He further intensified his criticism by alleging that the opposition lacks genuine political workers and instead relies on undesirable elements.
Roadmap to 2047: The Voter List Imperative
Shifting focus to party strategy, Maurya outlined a critical task for BJP workers. He emphasized the importance of the second phase of the voter list verification campaign, known as the Summary Revision of the Electoral Roll (SRER). Maurya instructed all party members to participate diligently in this exercise. He linked the accuracy of the voter list directly to the party's long-term political dominance. "If the voter list is accurate, no one will be able to challenge the BJP until 2047," he claimed, setting an ambitious goal for the party's future.
Arjuna's Focus and 2027 Victory Target
Taking a dig at Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Maurya accused him of misleading the public. He then invoked a mythological analogy to motivate BJP cadres. He urged workers to emulate the focus of Arjuna from the Mahabharata and keep their eyes firmly on the political target. Maurya set a clear objective for the party: "We have to achieve a bigger victory in 2027 than in 2017." He asserted that this goal is achievable solely through the strength and dedication of the party's grassroots workers.
Maurya also issued an alert regarding separate voter lists for different elections. He noted that the electoral rolls for Panchayat, Lok Sabha, and Assembly elections would be distinct, and workers must remain vigilant about this detail. Looking beyond Uttar Pradesh, he expressed confidence in the BJP's expansion plans, predicting victories in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu during the 2026 assembly elections.
