Keshav Prasad Maurya Condemns Opposition Parties Over Women's Reservation Bill Stance

In a sharp critique delivered on Saturday, Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Keshav Prasad Maurya, launched a scathing attack on the Congress and Samajwadi Party regarding their opposition to the women's reservation bill. Speaking at the Circuit House in Prayagraj before departing for Lucknow, Maurya asserted that their resistance to this pivotal legislation has laid bare what he termed an "anti-women mindset".

Accusations of Male-Dominated Thinking

Maurya emphasized that these political factions are "trapped in a male-dominated thinking" and deliberately obstruct equal participation of women in legislative bodies. In contrast, he highlighted the Bharatiya Janata Party's unwavering commitment to implementing women's reservation and enhancing female representation in governance structures.

Criticism of Opposition Celebrations

The deputy chief minister further rebuked Opposition parties for allegedly celebrating when the bill encountered obstacles, describing such actions as a profound insult to women who have been advocating for their rights over decades. He warned that this stance could trigger the "wrath of women", which might manifest in upcoming electoral contests, including the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections and the 2029 Lok Sabha polls.

Political Repercussions and Broader Targeting

Maurya cautioned that the Congress, Samajwadi Party, along with other parties like the Trinamool Congress and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, would face severe political consequences for their opposition. He argued that their position exposes their true intentions, undermining efforts toward gender equality in politics.

Focus on Byelection Preparations

During his address, Maurya also reviewed campaign strategies for the impending byelection in Ward 48 (Alopibagh) of the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation. He urged BJP workers to amplify their outreach, particularly targeting female voters, by educating them about the Opposition's stand on women's reservation. He stressed the importance of taking this issue to every household to ensure widespread awareness and mobilization.
