Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister and president of the ruling National People’s Party (NPP), Conrad K Sangma, delivered a defiant message on Thursday following a disturbing incident of political violence. The NPP office in Tura was set ablaze by unidentified miscreants on Wednesday, prompting a strong response from the party leadership.
"Deeply Saddened" by Unprovoked Attack
Addressing the media, Conrad Sangma expressed profound sadness over the targeted attack. "We are all aware of yesterday’s incident. Several places, including the NPP office, were vandalised, attacked, and burned by some individuals, and we are deeply saddened by this," he stated. The Chief Minister emphasized that there was absolutely no justification for such an act of destruction against a political party's premises.
"There was no reason at all to attack the party office, but the matter was turned into a political issue and the NPP office was targeted," Sangma asserted, highlighting what he perceived as a deliberate politicization of the vandalism.

Despite the physical damage to the party office, Conrad Sangma remained resolute about the NPP's enduring strength. He issued a powerful message to party workers and supporters across Meghalaya. "However, I would also like to send a message to the people of our party. Those who burned our party office today may think that by doing so they can end NPP. But we all know that NPP lives in the hearts of the people. Therefore, there is no way they can end the NPP," the Chief Minister declared confidently.
