Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy Advocates for Daily Public Engagement by Councillors

In a significant address at the charge-taking ceremony of Edulapuram municipal chairperson P Anitha and the felicitation of newly-elected councillors, Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy issued a compelling call to action. He urged all councillors and corporators to commit to spending a minimum of two hours every day among the residents in their respective wards. This initiative aims to foster direct communication, listen to public grievances, and actively work towards resolving local issues.

Focus on Development Over Politics Post-Elections

Minister Srinivas Reddy emphasized that politics should be confined strictly to election periods. Once elections conclude, the primary focus must shift decisively towards development and the implementation of promises made to the electorate. He highlighted that not every task requires substantial funds; many problems can be effectively addressed through on-site visits and proactive engagement. By being present and accessible, councillors can tackle concerns more efficiently and build stronger community ties.

Assurances and Priority Development Works

The minister reassured the public that all assurances given during the election campaigns in Edulapuram and other urban local bodies would be honored. The Congress government is committed to prioritizing development works, with a special emphasis on enhancing urban infrastructure. Srinivas Reddy reiterated the vision to develop Edulapuram into a model municipality within the state, leveraging its extensive area and numerous open plots for optimal utilization.

Structured Engagement and Immediate Priorities

To institutionalize this approach, the minister advised councillors to make it mandatory to visit their divisions and wards at least five days a week, dedicating a minimum of two hours daily, preferably during morning hours. He stressed that such regular interactions would not only improve public satisfaction but also enhance the efficiency of officials and field-level staff, leading to systemic improvements.

Immediate priorities outlined by the minister include addressing critical issues such as drinking water supply, resolving drainage water stagnation, and preventing encroachments on drains. He announced plans for a review meeting within 15 days to assess progress and ensure accountability.

Enforcement and Future Plans

In a directive to municipal officials, Srinivas Reddy ordered the removal of constructions that have encroached upon nalas (drains), underscoring the government's commitment to urban planning and environmental integrity. A municipal council meeting is scheduled within the next 15 days to finalize and initiate the necessary development works, ensuring a structured and timely approach to urban rejuvenation.
