A 16-year-old boy was shot dead in Uttar Pradesh's Kasganj district after he refused to fetch water for a neighbor, police said on Tuesday.
The incident took place on Monday evening in the Patna village under the Patna police station limits. The victim, identified as Shivam, was a Class 10 student.
According to police, the accused, identified as Ravi, had asked Shivam to fetch water from a nearby hand pump. When Shivam refused, an argument broke out between the two. Ravi allegedly pulled out a country-made pistol and shot Shivam in the chest.
Shivam was rushed to a local hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
Senior police officials, including Superintendent of Police (SP) Kasganj, reached the spot and launched an investigation. The accused was arrested late Monday night, and the weapon used in the crime has been recovered.
SP Kasganj said that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Arms Act. Further investigation is underway.
The incident has sparked outrage in the village, with locals demanding strict action against the accused. The victim's family has also appealed to the police for justice.
This is not the first such incident in the region. In recent months, there have been several cases of violent disputes over trivial issues in the state.
