Ahmedabad: A four-day search operation by the Vatva police for 12-year-old twins concluded successfully when it was discovered that the boys had not met with any unfortunate incident but had instead embarked on a bicycling adventure to Mumbai.
Twins Found Safe After Bicycle Expedition
The Vatva police had issued an alert after receiving a complaint that the twins had gone missing. However, analysis of CCTV footage revealed that the twins, along with an 18-year-old companion, had traveled to Mumbai with their bicycles.
Police stated that the journey was undertaken to celebrate a birthday, although due to the boys being exhausted and anxious about questions, it remains unknown whose birthday was being celebrated. The saga ended when the boys were located at the Vadodara railway station and reunited with their parents.
Details of the Incident
Vatva police inspector A A Vachheta said the twins left home without informing their family and moved through multiple railway stations with their bicycles. "They were unaware that they cannot transport cycles in the train compartments," Vachheta said. Despite this, the boys managed to reach their destination without any trouble from their cargo. "Perhaps their love for cycling made them take the trip," Vachheta added.
The twins went missing on Sunday afternoon. A complaint was lodged at the Vatva police station, and the surveillance team scoured through hours of CCTV footage. In time, police were able to map the route of the three boys. First, they were spotted at the Vatva railway station. Police surmised that they were headed in the direction of Mumbai.
Search Operation and Discovery
Photos were circulated on social media and shared with police stations and railway points along the route. Police teams examined footage across stations and major cities, reviewing and analyzing an estimated 400 CCTV clips over four consecutive days. Investigators established that the boys got off the train at Bajwa (Vadodara), pedaled to the Vadodara railway station, and took another train to Mumbai.
Police said they were subsequently sighted at the Mumbai railway station, and after a couple of days, they were spotted at the Vadodara railway station. Police found the three sleeping on the platform, with the bicycles still with them.
