MLA Takes Bold Step to Revive Alma Mater by Closing Private School

In a remarkable demonstration of commitment to public education, KR Pet MLA HT Manju has made a significant personal sacrifice to breathe new life into a struggling government school in his village. The JD(S) legislator voluntarily shut down his own private educational institution to ensure the survival and revival of the Haralaly government higher primary school, the very place where he once studied as a child.

From Closure to Revival: A School's New Beginning

The Haralaly government higher primary school had remained closed for nearly two years due to critically low enrolment numbers, facing the real threat of permanent shutdown. Concerned about this dire situation, MLA Manju decided to take immediate action after his election in May 2023. His intervention proved decisive during the 2025–26 academic year, when he successfully facilitated the reopening of the institution.

Around 40 students have now enrolled in the revived school, which has received government-appointed experienced teachers to ensure quality education. KR pete block education officer YK Thimmegowda praised the MLA's initiative, stating that it had given the school "a new lease of life." He further revealed that additional steps are being taken to establish "Makkala Mane" (children's homes) and pre-primary sections with support from villagers and alumni, all aimed at strengthening enrolment in government schools.

Transforming Public Education Standards

Speaking about his motivation and the results, MLA Manju emphasized that the Haralaly government higher primary school now offers facilities and academic standards comparable to private institutions. "Many alumni of the school went on to occupy prestigious positions. English will also be given equal importance for the betterment of students," he stated, highlighting the comprehensive educational approach being implemented.

The MLA also addressed a common concern among parents, noting that many were sending their children to distant locations for Pre KG education. "Hence, at the earliest, we will also start Makkala Mane," he assured, demonstrating his commitment to providing complete educational solutions within the community.

A Call to Parents and Community

In his appeal to the community, MLA Manju urged parents to personally visit the school, interact with teachers, and assess the quality of education before making enrolment decisions for their children. This transparent approach underscores his confidence in the revived institution's capabilities and his dedication to rebuilding trust in public education.

By closing his private school in Neethimangala and transferring its students to the Haralaly government school, MLA HT Manju has set a powerful example of prioritizing community welfare over personal gain. His actions not only saved a cherished alma mater from permanent closure but also strengthened the foundation of public education in Mandya district, inspiring similar initiatives across the region.
