JD(S) MLA H D Revanna Orders Salary Withholding Over Municipal Rent Arrears
MLA Revanna: Withhold Salaries If Rent Dues Not Collected

JD(S) Leader H D Revanna Takes Strict Action on Municipal Rent Dues

In a decisive move to address significant financial lapses, senior JD(S) leader and Holenarsipura MLA H D Revanna has issued a stern directive to municipal officials concerning unpaid commercial shop rents. During a meeting held on Tuesday to discuss the mounting arrears, Revanna explicitly instructed Municipal Chief Officer Shivashankar and Office Manager Jayalakshmi to withhold the salaries of municipal staff if they fail to collect rent dues that have reportedly crossed lakhs in outstanding amounts.

Crackdown on Rent Collection Failures

Expressing frustration over the persistent issue, Revanna criticized the rent collectors for their inability to recover the dues. He emphasized that if the arrears are not cleared promptly, the salaries of responsible staff should be held back as a disciplinary measure. This action aims to ensure accountability and improve revenue collection for the municipality.

Mohan, a rent collector for municipal shops, highlighted the severity of the situation, noting that several tenants have accumulated lakhs in unpaid rents and are reluctant to settle their dues. In response, the municipality has initiated steps to vacate additional meat shops in the town. Tenants have been served notices, giving them a one-week ultimatum to pay their rents. Failure to comply will result in the shops being locked and reauctioned, with any advance deposits forfeited as per regulations.

Allegations of Financial Mismanagement Addressed

Revanna also raised concerns about broader financial irregularities within the municipality. He pointed out allegations that accounts are not being properly maintained and that collected taxes are being misappropriated. This underscores the need for greater transparency and oversight in municipal financial operations to prevent such issues from recurring.

Infrastructure Improvements for Water Supply

Beyond financial matters, Revanna addressed critical infrastructure needs in Holenarsipura. To combat drinking water problems, particularly in areas near the bus stand and Devanga locality, he has instructed municipal engineers to prepare a proposal for installing two mini water tanks. This initiative aims to enhance water availability and ensure reliable supply for residents, reflecting a proactive approach to local governance.

The actions taken by Revanna highlight a multifaceted effort to tackle both administrative inefficiencies and public welfare challenges in the municipality, signaling a push for improved accountability and service delivery.
