A fresh controversy has erupted in Karnataka's Belagavi district after social media was flooded with visuals purportedly showing the daughter of a sitting Congress legislator travelling in a government vehicle, which is strictly reserved for official duties.

The footage, which quickly gained traction online, allegedly shows Trupti Kage, daughter of Kagawad MLA Bharamagouda (Raju) Kage, using the official car in Chikodi town. The incident came to light after local residents recorded the vehicle and shared the clips on various social media platforms, where they went viral within hours.
According to established government norms, vehicles assigned to elected representatives are designated exclusively for official work and public service-related travel. The use of these assets by family members for personal convenience is strictly prohibited.
MLA's Defence and Public Reaction
The video sparked sharp reactions from citizens and netizens alike, with many questioning the alleged misuse of public resources while ordinary people are expected to follow all rules. The issue tapped into a broader public sentiment about accountability and the ethical use of state property.
However, MLA Raju Kage, who is also the chairman of the North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC), dismissed the allegations of any wrongdoing. He offered a clarification, stating that the vehicle was returning empty to Belagavi to pick him up from Kagawad via Chikodi, as he was travelling back from Bengaluru.
"Since the vehicle was anyway heading to Belagavi, my daughter, who was also travelling there, came in the vehicle. What is wrong with that?" the MLA said in his defence.
