Modi govt prioritises development of Meghalaya, Northeast

Shillong: Union Minister of State Shantanu Thakur stated on Friday that the overall development of Meghalaya and the entire northeastern region remains a key priority for the Narendra Modi government.

Addressing the media at the convention centre in Shillong alongside senior state BJP leaders, Thakur highlighted the achievements and developmental initiatives undertaken by the central government over the past 12 years.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said, has consistently envisioned inclusive development reaching every corner of the Northeast.

The NDA government has provided “unprecedented opportunities” for growth in the region, leading to significant progress across various sectors, Thakur added.

On the BJP’s prospects in Meghalaya, he said the party was working to convince people that the Modi government is a reliable and people-centric administration committed to public welfare.

“We are trying to build confidence among the people that the Modi government delivers results and stands with citizens. By understanding their challenges and addressing their concerns, we aim to strengthen public trust in the BJP,” Thakur said.

He expressed confidence that the BJP could secure a decisive mandate in the 2028 Meghalaya Assembly elections, as it had recently done in West Bengal, where it has formed the government.

The minister emphasised that the BJP’s objective is to connect with people on issues of development, good governance, and public welfare, while accelerating the pace of growth across the Northeast region.
