Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) government, labelling its rule as "maha jungle raj" (great jungle rule). His sharp critique was delivered during a virtual address to the Parivartan Sankalpa Sabha in Nadia district on December 20, 2025.
Virtual Rally, Hard-Hitting Political Message
While adverse weather conditions forced the Prime Minister to connect digitally instead of being physically present, his political message was delivered with full force. Modi accused the Mamata Banerjee-led administration of creating a lawless environment, drawing a parallel to the political culture rejected by voters in Bihar.
He asserted that Bengal's development has been deliberately stalled by rampant corruption and nepotism under the TMC regime. The Prime Minister urged the people of the state to choose a "double-engine government" by bringing the BJP to power, promising accelerated progress.
Key Allegations Against the TMC Government
Modi's speech outlined several serious allegations against the state government. He claimed that the TMC was actively shielding infiltrators, a charge often used in political discourse concerning illegal immigration. Furthermore, he accused the state machinery of blocking the revision of voter lists, implying electoral malpractices.
The Prime Minister argued that the administration prioritises appeasement politics over genuine development. He positioned the upcoming electoral battle as a choice between this alleged "jungle raj" and the BJP's model of governance focused on growth and security.
A Signal from Bihar and a Tribute to Workers
Invoking the recent political change in Bihar, Modi presented it as a template for Bengal. He suggested that just as Bihar moved away from what he termed 'jungle raj', West Bengal must now embark on a similar path of change and restoration of order.
In a sombre note during the rally, the Prime Minister also expressed his condolences to the families of BJP workers who reportedly lost their lives while travelling to attend the political event. This acknowledgment added an emotional layer to his virtual address.
The virtual rally in Nadia sets the stage for a fiercely contested political landscape in West Bengal, with the BJP aiming to consolidate its position against the entrenched TMC government by highlighting issues of governance, law and order, and development.
