Mohali District Completes Flood Compensation Disbursement
In a significant relief initiative for families devastated by recent flooding, the Mohali district administration has successfully completed compensation distribution to households whose homes suffered damage during the calamity. The financial aid specifically benefited 14 families across the Derabassi and Banur regions, areas that experienced some of the most severe flooding impacts.
Direct Fund Transfer to Affected Families
Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal confirmed that a total amount of Rs 7.20 lakh has been directly transferred to the beneficiaries following thorough verification of property damage. "The unprecedented flooding caused immense hardships to residents across different parts of our district," stated Mittal. She emphasized that the compensation provided reflects the officially assessed damage to each individual property.
The district administration maintained that the pain and loss endured by these families cannot be adequately expressed in words. However, they have ensured that financial support is delivered promptly and efficiently to help victims begin rebuilding their lives with dignity and security.
Statewide Relief Efforts and Additional Support
As part of broader relief operations throughout Punjab, compensation amounting to Rs 377 crore is currently being distributed to flood-affected households across the state. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has given his personal assurance that every family impacted by flooding in Punjab will receive necessary support during this challenging recovery period.
Beyond immediate financial compensation, the state government has announced that Mgnrega will play a crucial role in reconstructing flood-damaged homes. This innovative approach will provide beneficiaries with up to 90 days of wage employment specifically for rebuilding their own houses, effectively combining livelihood support with shelter restoration.
The recent floods resulted in large-scale destruction throughout several parts of Mohali district, damaging not only residential structures but also extensive agricultural land. Derabassi and Banur emerged among the worst-affected areas, where crops were completely destroyed and fields remained buried under thick layers of silt after floodwaters receded.
The administration has committed to continuous monitoring of rehabilitation efforts and pledged to extend additional assistance wherever necessary to restore normalcy for affected families. Their comprehensive approach addresses both immediate financial needs and long-term recovery through employment-linked reconstruction programs.
