Mother, Son Held for Killing Teen Over Social Shame in Amroha

A 39-year-old woman, Najo Khatoon, along with her teenage son, was arrested for allegedly strangling her 17-year-old daughter in Bilana village under Naugawa Sadar police station in Amroha, police said on Thursday. The accused cited fear of social shame as the motive behind the murder.

Background of the Incident

According to Amroha Superintendent of Police (SP) Lakhan Singh Yadav, the woman had initially accused 20-year-old Mohd Zaid of killing her daughter on April 27. However, during the investigation, Khatoon confessed to the crime. She revealed that Zaid had taken her daughter to his house on April 26, where he allegedly raped her. Following the incident, the family faced social pressure, which led Khatoon and her son to kill the girl in the morning and attempt to present it as a murder.

Arrests and Legal Action

Both Khatoon and her son have been arrested in connection with the murder. Meanwhile, Mohd Zaid has also been taken into custody after a separate case was registered against him under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
