Kolkata: Two grieving mothers visited the 'Janatar Darbar' of Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari at the BJP state office in Sector V on Saturday, seeking justice for their deceased sons. Tumpa Nath, a resident of Patuli, lost her eight-year-old son Ayush Nath on May 24 after he fell ill at a Bansdroni school. Snigdha Ghosal, from Ruby, lost her 24-year-old son Amartya, a house staff at Bardhaman Dental College, on June 10, 2024.
Allegations of School Negligence
Nath, accompanied by her brother, alleged that her son's death was due to negligence by school authorities. "We have come here to seek justice. We made several efforts but did not receive any help. This is our last hope," she said. According to Nath, on May 13, her son's condition deteriorated after the second period. "He was not even given water. The school authorities could have made him sit under a fan in a cool room but did not," she claimed. After the sixth period, Ayush struggled to descend the stairs with his heavy school bag, fell, and severely injured his head. "We were not informed beforehand. It was negligence on the school authorities' part but the police did not take any steps," Nath added. Ayush remained in a coma for 11 days before succumbing to his injuries on May 24. Adhikari heard their plea and assured them that the matter would be investigated. The school has consistently denied the allegations.
Murder Allegation in Bardhaman Dental College Case
In the second case, Vivekananda and Snigdha Ghosal, parents of Amartya, alleged that their son was murdered. "My son was a house surgeon and was returning to work on June 10, 2024. He was killed on the way at a place where there was no CCTV coverage. It was a planned murder. He fell victim to threat culture," Snigdha said. The parents moved court, and in 2025, the court ruled that it was not a traffic accident and involved third-party involvement, ordering a fresh investigation. "Unfortunately, the CID did not do anything at that time," she added. Amartya's father said Adhikari assured them he would take necessary action.
Other Grievances Addressed
Several other individuals visited the BJP state office seeking redressal. Karuna Bauri and her husband Bahadur, from Dhapa Mathpukur, sought help for their nine-year-old daughter who has a facial tumor. "She needs several injections before surgery, and one injection costs around Rs 80,000, which we cannot afford. We are grateful to the CM as he said he will take responsibility for the expenses of our daughter's treatment," she said.
