MP Chief Minister Mohan Yadav Advocates for Environmentally Conscious Holi Celebrations
In a significant move towards promoting sustainable festivities, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has extended his heartfelt greetings to residents ahead of the vibrant festival of Holi. On Saturday, the Chief Minister made a compelling appeal, urging citizens to embrace cow-dung logs, commonly known as gau-kasth, as an alternative to traditional wood for the ceremonial Holika Dahan. This initiative aims to foster an environment-friendly approach to the celebrations, aligning with broader ecological goals.
Government Issues Comprehensive Advisory for Eco-Friendly Holi
The state government has taken proactive steps by issuing detailed directions to all district administrations, emphasizing the promotion of cow-dung logs over wood. This advisory, released a day prior to the Chief Minister's appeal, underscores the critical need to prevent the indiscriminate felling of trees, thereby protecting the environment. According to the government's statement, this year's Holi celebrations should serve as a powerful platform to convey messages of environmental conservation and social harmony.
As per the official directives, concerted efforts are to be made through public cooperation and community participation to encourage the widespread adoption of cow-dung logs for Holika Dahan. The government has also called for a holistic approach to the festival, advocating for the use of natural and herbal colours, water conservation practices, and a respectful stance towards animals and birds by refraining from applying colours to them.
Registration and Certification of Public Holika Dahan Events
To streamline and support eco-friendly celebrations, the government has mandated free registration for public Holika Dahan events at various administrative levels, including district headquarters, tehsils, urban local bodies, and panchayats. During the registration process, organizing committees are required to provide brief details along with the names and contact information of their office bearers.
Extensive publicity campaigns are to be launched at the district level to motivate residents to adopt gau-kasth for their Holika Dahan rituals. Urban local bodies and panchayati raj institutions are expected to play an active role in this campaign. On the day of Holika Dahan, field officials will conduct inspections of public events, actively encouraging the use of cow-dung logs instead of wood.
Events that exclusively utilize cow-dung logs for Holika Dahan will receive official certification from the concerned authorities. Detailed reports on such events must be submitted to district collectors, who will then log them into official records for future reference and recognition.
Recognition and Honors for Exemplary Eco-Friendly Initiatives
In a bid to incentivize and celebrate environmental stewardship, the government has announced that district-level ceremonies will be organized at all district headquarters. During these events, organizers of cow-dung log-based Holika Dahan will be publicly honored and feted.
Organizations and office bearers who conduct exemplary Holika Dahan ceremonies using cow-dung logs will be awarded commendation certificates on behalf of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. Such institutions will also be given priority for future encouragement and support from the government, highlighting a long-term commitment to sustainable practices.
Oversight and Implementation of the 'Clean and Healthy Holi' Campaign
To ensure the effective execution of these initiatives, the government has directed all district collectors to oversee the implementation of the 'Clean and Healthy Holi' campaign. Divisional commissioners will be responsible for monitoring all related activities, ensuring that the directives are followed diligently across the state.
This comprehensive approach by the Madhya Pradesh government reflects a growing emphasis on integrating traditional festivals with modern environmental concerns, setting a precedent for other regions to follow in promoting eco-friendly celebrations.
