Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav Announces Wheat Procurement Schedule Amid Congress Concerns
In response to concerns raised by the Congress party regarding potential delays in wheat procurement, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Sunday provided detailed assurances that procurement operations at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) will commence as scheduled across the entire state.
Procurement Timeline and Regional Schedule
The procurement process will officially begin on April 10 in the Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, and Narmadapuram divisions. For the remaining regions of Madhya Pradesh, procurement activities will start from April 15. This staggered approach aims to ensure systematic and efficient operations across different agricultural zones.
Assurances on Essential Supplies and Infrastructure
Chief Minister Yadav specifically addressed concerns about essential materials, stating unequivocally that there is no shortage of jute (gunny) bags for the procurement season. He emphasized that adequate supplies have been arranged through coordinated efforts with central agencies to meet all requirements.
During his review of procurement preparedness, Yadav outlined several key measures:
- All registered farmers on the official procurement portal will be eligible to sell their wheat
- Priority will be given to small farmers, followed by medium and large farmers
- The state has established 3,627 procurement centers for the current season
- Control rooms will be operational at both state and mandi levels to monitor operations
- All weighing centers will undergo thorough inspection before procurement begins
- Mandi infrastructure will be upgraded in phased implementations
Registration Numbers and Financial Details
The state has witnessed significant growth in farmer participation, with 1,904,644 farmers registered for the 2026-27 procurement season. This represents a substantial increase from the 1,544,055 farmers registered during the previous season.
Financially, the Minimum Support Price for wheat has been fixed at Rs 2,625 per quintal, supplemented by a state bonus of Rs 40 per quintal. This combined rate provides enhanced financial security for farmers participating in the procurement program.
Procurement Targets and Resource Requirements
Madhya Pradesh estimates wheat procurement at approximately 7.8 million metric tons for the current year. To support this volume, officials have calculated a requirement of around 312,000 bales of gunny bags, which they confirm are already available in sufficient quantities through coordinated supply chains.
The comprehensive preparations and clear timeline announcement by Chief Minister Yadav aim to address political concerns while ensuring smooth procurement operations that benefit the agricultural community across Madhya Pradesh.
