MP Authorities Seize 62 LPG Cylinders in Crackdown on Illegal Storage

In a significant enforcement action amid ongoing LPG shortage concerns, authorities in Madhya Pradesh have seized a total of 62 LPG cylinders during coordinated raids across three districts. The operations, conducted in Indore, Khandwa, and Jabalpur, targeted illegal storage and suspected hoarding of both domestic and commercial cylinders.

Indore District Leads with Multiple Seizures

Indore district supply controller ML Maru confirmed that raids in Indore resulted in the seizure of at least 25 commercial and domestic LPG cylinders from various locations. In one notable incident, five cylinders—three commercial and two domestic—were confiscated from the residence of Vinod Agrawal, where they were found stored illegally without proper authorization.

Khandwa Canteen Raid Nets 27 Commercial Cylinders

A joint task force comprising revenue and food department officials conducted a raid on Friday night at a canteen named Tikkad in the Civil Lines area of Khandwa. The operation led to the seizure of 27 commercial LPG cylinders that were being stored without valid documentation, highlighting concerns about unauthorized commercial use during supply constraints.

Jabalpur Operation Uncovers Gas Booklet Scheme

In Jabalpur, a coordinated effort between district administration and police resulted in the seizure of 10 LPG cylinders—six domestic and four commercial—along with 47 gas booklets from the house of a gas hawker in the Bhedaghat area. The raid in Jhinna Mohalla of Mirganj was initiated based on a tip-off about suspected hoarding and illegal handling of LPG cylinders.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the confiscated gas booklets belonged to residents from several nearby localities, including Jhinna Mirganj, Ama Hinota, Kudan, Shilpi Nagar, and Bhedaghat. This discovery suggests a broader network of unauthorized distribution and potential exploitation of domestic LPG allocations.

Legal Action and Market Value Assessment

The total market value of all seized cylinders across the three districts has been estimated at Rs 1,71,237. Authorities have registered a case against the accused under provisions of the Essential Commodities Act, which regulates the distribution and pricing of essential goods to prevent hoarding and black marketing.

These enforcement actions come at a time when many regions in Madhya Pradesh are experiencing LPG supply shortages, making such crackdowns crucial for ensuring fair distribution and preventing market manipulation. The raids demonstrate the state government's commitment to addressing supply chain irregularities and protecting consumer interests during periods of commodity scarcity.
