Eligibility Criteria and Educational Requirements

The mandatory educational qualification is a pass in Class 10th. However, applicants belonging to Scheduled Tribes (ST) categories may apply if they have passed Class 8th, provided they possess exceptional musical talent.

Selection Process and Skill Assessment
The selection procedure involves a multi-stage evaluation. It commences with candidates demonstrating their proficiency in at least one instrument from the approved list. This is followed by a comprehensive band test worth 75 marks, with 60 marks allocated for the primary instrument performance and bonus marks available for proficiency in additional instruments.
Subsequently, candidates will face a personal interview carrying 25 marks. Further stages include a physical measurement test, thorough document verification, and a mandatory medical examination to ensure fitness for duty.
Physical Standards and Instrument Proficiency
Applicants must meet specific physical standards. The minimum height requirement is 168 cm for General and OBC category candidates. More flexible physical standards are applicable for candidates from SC, ST, and tribal area backgrounds. Chest measurements also vary according to category specifications.
Candidates must possess expertise in playing at least one musical instrument from the designated list, which includes flute, clarinet, trumpet, saxophone, trombone, French horn, bass tuba, and various types of drums, among others.
