Jaipur Municipal Corporation Seals MS Dhoni Cricket Stadium Over Unpaid Tax Dues

In a significant enforcement action, the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) on Monday sealed the prominent MS Dhoni Cricket Stadium located on Sikar Road. This move was part of a targeted drive to recover long-pending urban development (UD) tax dues from defaulters across the city.

Substantial Dues Accumulated Over Nearly Two Decades

According to JMC officials, the stadium operators owed an outstanding amount of approximately Rs 42 lakh in UD tax. The dues had been accumulating over an extended period, specifically from 2007 through 2025. Despite the issuance of repeated notices and reminders, the payment was not forthcoming, prompting the civic body to take decisive action.

Pawan Kumar Sharma, the Deputy Commissioner of the Murlipura zone, confirmed that the sealing was executed by the civic revenue team after all attempts to secure payment failed. The stadium, named in honor of former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, is a notable landmark in the area.

Wider Tax Recovery Drive Across Multiple Zones

The enforcement action was not limited to the stadium alone. During the same drive, the JMC also sealed several shops within the Murlipura zone for failing to clear UD tax dues totaling around Rs 2 lakh. This underscores the corporation's comprehensive approach to tax recovery.

Furthermore, the drive extended to other zones within Jaipur. In the Jagatpura zone, authorities sealed three properties at different locations due to pending dues. Similarly, in the Sanganer zone, six properties were sealed over unpaid urban development tax, highlighting the widespread nature of the recovery efforts.

Emphasis on Compliance and Civic Responsibility

The JMC's actions reflect a strict stance on tax compliance and the importance of fulfilling civic financial obligations. Urban development tax is crucial for funding local infrastructure and services, and non-payment can hinder municipal projects and maintenance.

This sealing drive serves as a clear message to all property owners and operators in Jaipur about the consequences of neglecting tax payments. The JMC has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all dues are collected promptly to support urban development initiatives in the city.
