Muslim Leaders Demand Greater Representation in Telangana Cabinet
Hyderabad: Muslim religious leaders, led by Maulana Md Hussamuddin Sani Jafar Pasha, on Friday urged Rahul Gandhi and top leaders of Telangana Congress, including Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, to ensure greater Muslim representation in the state cabinet, Rajya Sabha, legislative council, and other nominated posts.
“Muslims constitute nearly 14% of Telangana’s population and had supported the Congress with the expectation that the party would work for their development and ensure their participation in governance. But the community’s representation in the cabinet remained limited to one minister, Mohammad Azharuddin. As per Rahul Gandhi’s firm belief in ‘Jitni Aabadi, utni Hissedari’, more representation of Muslims should be there in the cabinet and other posts,” he said.
The delegation highlighted that the Congress party had promised proportional representation during the election campaign, and the current allocation does not reflect the community's demographic weight. They expressed hope that the leadership would address this disparity in future appointments.
