Mysuru Member of Parliament Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar has called for the creation of systematic and dedicated zones for street vendors across the city. The move aims to preserve the renowned cleanliness and heritage character of Mysuru while supporting the urban economy.
Balancing Livelihoods with Urban Order
During a progress review meeting at the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) on Friday, the BJP MP acknowledged the important role street vendors play. However, he stated that their activities must not cause inconvenience to the residents or the numerous visitors who flock to Karnataka's cultural capital. Yaduveer Wadiyar instructed the authorities to prepare a comprehensive plan for developing these designated vending zones to ensure vendors are accommodated in an organised manner.
Essential Facilities and Vendor Welfare
The MP emphasised that initiatives to manage street vending must carefully balance urban aesthetics with the protection of livelihoods. He directed officials to ensure that all proposed vendor zones are equipped with basic facilities, maintaining strict standards of safety, security, and hygiene. Crucially, Yaduveer cautioned that the process should not lead to any undue hardship or displacement for the existing vendors, highlighting the need for a sensitive and inclusive approach.
Preserving Mysuru's Unique Heritage
Underlining Mysuru's reputation as a clean and iconic Heritage City, the MP stressed that all development projects must be well-designed and effectively implemented to maintain its unique character. He also pointed out the necessity of providing proper guidance and support to all street vendors, enabling them to operate smoothly within the new regulated framework.
To assess the ground reality firsthand, Yaduveer Wadiyar announced plans to visit several potential street vendor zones along with civic officials. He informed the meeting that a decision was taken to complete the entire coordination process with all concerned departments at the earliest. The review meeting was attended by senior officials and members of various relevant committees.
