With the return of elected representatives following nearly four years of administrative rule, corporators of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation have initiated a thorough examination of civic works executed between March 2022 and February 6, 2026. This period saw the civic body managed by an administrator under then municipal commissioner Abhijeet Chaudhari, and the renewed political oversight is expected to uncover numerous irregularities.
Cross-Party Questions Target Slum Projects and Construction Works
Corporators across political parties have begun raising detailed inquiries about works undertaken during the administrator regime, with particular focus on slum areas, construction projects, and civic facilities. BJP corporator Sanjay Chavare has already submitted an official question seeking comprehensive details of works carried out in the slum department during the fiscal years 2024-25 and 2025-26.
Several other ruling-party corporators are preparing to demand a complete accounting of all works approved and executed during the administrator's tenure. The exercise has generated significant discussion about potential "skeletons in the cupboard" within civic corridors, suggesting that multiple questionable decisions may come to light.
Historical Opposition to Administrator Decisions Resurfaces
During the four-year administrative period, many decisions taken by Commissioner Chaudhari faced substantial opposition from BJP legislators, particularly those concerning extensions granted to garbage collection companies. MLA Pravin Datke even raised this contentious issue in the state assembly, highlighting ongoing political tensions.
With general body meetings of the civic body now resuming after the election hiatus, corporators appear determined to revisit several such decisions. The upcoming general body meeting scheduled for Friday at the Suresh Bhat Auditorium will serve as a crucial platform for these investigations.

BJP corporator Vijay, also known as Pintu Zalke, is set to question the proliferation of illegal hoardings and commercial advertising boards installed throughout the city during the administrator period. This inquiry targets potential regulatory failures and unauthorized commercial activities.
Senior BJP corporator Sudhir Raut is preparing to seek detailed information regarding expenditure on lakes, particularly Gandhisagar Lake. His questions will cover the number of works completed, the installation of LED lights, and how many of these lights were subsequently stolen. This line of questioning is expected to place significant pressure on both the construction and electrical departments.
Congress Corporator Joins Scrutiny of Public Amenities
First-time Congress corporator Abhijit Jha has indicated that he will raise pointed questions regarding expenditure on open gyms throughout the city. His inquiry will focus on identifying the contractors involved, the actual cost of equipment, and the current condition of damaged installations. The gardens department, responsible for maintaining these facilities, is likely to face particularly tough questions on this issue.
Transport Department Under Microscope for Bus Auction
Meanwhile, ruling-party leader Narendra Borkar has decided to target the transport department with specific allegations. He plans to question the controversial auction of JNNURM buses that became defunct during the administrator rule, investigating whether spare parts went missing prior to the auction. Additionally, he will seek detailed information about any action taken against bus operators and whether financial recoveries were made from responsible parties.
