Major Fire in Nagpur's Besa Area Causes Extensive Damage, Owner Alleges Delayed Fire Response

A significant fire erupted at a ground-plus-two residential building in the Besa area of Nagpur early Saturday morning, resulting in the destruction of household items valued at nearly 70 lakh rupees. The property owner has raised serious allegations, claiming that a delayed response by the fire department exacerbated the damage, although fortunately, no individuals were injured in the incident.

Details of the Fire Incident and Property Loss

The fire occurred at plot number 26, owned by Snehadip Bhaisare, located in Harihar Nagar under Sanyog Society. According to officials from the Besa fire station, the initial call was officially logged at approximately 4:19 AM. In response, a team from the Besa Nagar Panchayat fire station arrived at the scene within 10 minutes. Additionally, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation's Narendra Nagar fire station received a call at 4:40 AM and managed to reach the location within six minutes.

However, Bhaisare has contested this timeline, asserting that his family contacted the fire brigade much earlier. He alleges that the first call was made around 3:50 AM, but the fire tender did not arrive until nearly an hour later. By that time, the entire house had already been consumed by flames. Bhaisare further stated that even the response from the Narendra Nagar fire station was delayed, contributing to the extensive destruction.

Extent of Damage and Firefighting Efforts

Fire officials reported that the blaze originated in the ground-plus-two residential structure and spread rapidly throughout the interior. The fire completely gutted numerous high-value household items, including:

  • An LED television
  • A sofa set
  • Beds and mattresses
  • A sound system
  • A computer
  • Fans
  • Furniture
  • Clothes
  • Various other electronic appliances

Despite the substantial loss, all occupants were able to evacuate safely and in a timely manner. Fire officer Sanket Matey from the Besa fire station mentioned that the exact cause of the fire remains undetermined at this stage. A detailed inspection will be conducted to ascertain the origin and contributing factors. The fire was successfully brought under control before it could spread to adjacent houses, preventing further property damage.

Allegations and Ongoing Investigation

The allegations of delayed response have sparked concerns regarding the efficiency of emergency services in the area. Bhaisare's claims highlight potential issues in communication and response times that may have intensified the financial impact of the fire. Authorities are expected to review the incident logs and response protocols as part of the ongoing investigation to address these allegations and improve future emergency preparedness.

This incident underscores the importance of prompt fire department intervention and raises questions about infrastructure and response mechanisms in residential zones. As the community recovers, focus will remain on ensuring such delays are mitigated to protect lives and property in similar future emergencies.
