Nagpur Fuel Crisis Shows Signs of Easing as Panic Buying Subsides
The severe fuel crisis that gripped Nagpur throughout the week has begun to show significant signs of easing as of Friday, with panic-driven queues thinning dramatically at most petrol pumps across the city. However, a handful of outlets in key areas including Wadi, Ganeshpeth, and Ramdaspeth remained completely shut due to stock depletion and ongoing supply chain delays.
Most Pumps Operating Normally as Demand Stabilizes
Visits to multiple petrol pumps across Nagpur revealed that the majority are now operating normally with routine demand patterns returning. Pump operators reported a marked and noticeable drop in the frantic panic buying that characterized the previous few days, indicating that consumer behavior is gradually returning to normal levels.
A petrol pump operator in the Wadi area confirmed that the intense rush has largely subsided. "Consumers are now purchasing fuel as per their regular needs rather than hoarding excessive quantities," the operator stated, while acknowledging that the after-effects of the recent surge continue to impact some specific outlets, leading to their temporary closures.
Administration Officials Confirm Improving Situation
A senior district administration official emphasized that the fuel situation has eased considerably and urged citizens to avoid unnecessary panic buying. "There is absolutely no need for panic buying at this stage. Supplies are steadily stabilizing and the vast majority of petrol pumps across Nagpur are functioning normally with adequate stock," the official reassured.
The official provided detailed explanations for the continued closure of select pumps, attributing it to two primary factors. "In some specific cases, stocks were completely depleted due to the excessive demand surge earlier this week, but replenishment is already en route. In other instances, delays may be linked to recent credit-related procedural changes implemented by oil companies, due to which fresh stock is yet to be received at those particular outlets," the official clarified. Authorities maintained confidence that affected pumps would resume full operations within the next day or two as these logistical issues are resolved.
LPG Cylinder Deliveries Face Technical Bottlenecks
On the domestic LPG cylinder front, dealers reported that the situation remains under considerable pressure despite steady supply availability. The average wait time for cylinder deliveries continues to hold at approximately eight days, creating ongoing inconvenience for households across the city.
Bablu Tiwari, the state president of the LPG Dealers Association of India, identified a technical bottleneck as the primary operational problem hampering delivery efficiency. "The situation continues to be essentially the same, with the wait time now stabilized around eight days. Supply from oil companies is steady, which enables us to maintain delivery continuity, but our major operational challenge involves technical downtime of oil company servers," Tiwari explained.
"We are struggling to complete dealer authentication code (DAC) input in the system, without which the next delivery stock does not get released for distribution," Tiwari added, highlighting how this technical glitch creates cascading delays throughout the supply chain.
Dealer Staff Working Extended Hours Under Strain
The strain on dealer staff has been significant and sustained throughout the crisis period. Tiwari revealed that employees are routinely staying back until 9 PM and sometimes even later, amounting to exhausting 12-hour shifts daily as they work to clear backlogs and manage the heightened demand.
With supply lines showing clear improvement on the petrol side and technical issues being addressed systematically, both officials and dealers expressed cautious optimism that complete normalcy would return to Nagpur's fuel distribution network in the coming days, provided no further disruptions occur in the supply chain.
