Nagpur's Emergency Kerosene Plan Activated Amid LPG Supply Strain
In response to mounting pressure on LPG supplies, the state government of Maharashtra has initiated a temporary kerosene distribution scheme specifically targeting rural regions within the Nagpur district. This emergency measure allocates a substantial 120 kilolitres of kerosene to address the immediate fuel needs of affected communities.
Distribution Framework and Eligibility Criteria
Under this newly rolled-out plan, every family holding a valid ration card will be entitled to receive three litres of kerosene. The distribution process will be executed through a network of fair price shops and authorized vendors, with the entire drive scheduled for completion within a strict 45-day timeframe.
Officials from the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Department have clarified that the allocation follows a central sanction of 3,744 kilolitres of kerosene for the entire state. Based on this, district-wise quotas have been meticulously drawn up. Notably, Nagpur city has not been allotted any share under this rural-focused scheme.
Phased Implementation and Monitoring Measures
The distribution will occur in phases, prioritizing Antyodaya and priority household beneficiaries in the initial stage. Inclusion of other eligible families will be contingent upon the availability of stocks. To curb potential misuse, such as diversion or black marketing, the administration will deploy district-level monitoring squads. Authorities have warned of stringent action against any violations detected during the process.
Pricing and Supply Logistics
As of now, Nagpur is yet to receive its allocated stock of kerosene. Retail prices will be finalized only after the supplies reach local depots. However, preliminary estimates suggest that the kerosene is expected to be priced between Rs 60 and Rs 65 per litre, making it an affordable alternative during the LGP shortage.
This proactive step aims to mitigate the hardships faced by rural households in Nagpur, ensuring they have access to essential cooking fuel while LPG supplies remain under strain. The state's swift response highlights its commitment to addressing public welfare amidst logistical challenges.
