Nashik-Jalgaon polls one-sided after rebel crisis resolved

Nashik: Water resources minister Girish Mahajan on Saturday declared that the local authorities constituency elections in Nashik and Jalgaon have become "completely one-sided" following the Mahayuti alliance's successful resolution of internal dissent surrounding rebel candidate Reshma Kale.

Mahajan, along with Shiv Sena minister Gulabrao Patil, played a pivotal role in defusing tensions. Kale had initially filed her nomination against the official BJP candidate, Nandkishor Mahajan. "After meeting deputy CM Eknath Shinde, she withdrew and extended support to Nandkishor. All issues related to the election have now been settled. It is a one-sided contest in Nashik and Jalgaon now," minister Mahajan said.

A similar development unfolded in Nashik, where rebel candidate Gokul Gite stepped back from actively campaigning against Mahayuti's official nominee, Narendra Darade. Kale had earlier linked her withdrawal to Gite stepping aside first, which ultimately helped consolidate the alliance's position.

Confirming her decision, Kale posted on social media: "I met deputy CM Eknath Shinde and, following his directions, I have decided to stop my campaign." "We were confident of ironing out the differences. CM Devendra Fadnavis and deputy CM Shinde spoke to the candidates and rebels. There are now no rebels anywhere now," Mahajan said, expressing confidence in a decisive victory, stating that both candidates would win by large margins. "Mahayuti is on course for a clean sweep across all eleven seats, with six already secured unopposed. The opposition will not be able to open its account at all," he said.

In Ahilyanagar, BJP's Prajakt Tanpur has already been elected unopposed. Polling for the remaining two seats is scheduled for June 18.

Mahajan advises Rohit to ask his grandfather about contribution to farmers' welfare

Water resources minister Girish Mahajan on Saturday took aim at NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar over his agitation on farmers' issues, accusing him of engaging in "publicity-driven politics", suggesting that Pawar should reflect on his own party's record when it was in government.

"Rohit should ask within his own family what they have done for farmers during their tenure. The loan waiver has been implemented in the best possible way, but he is only trying to take credit and gain attention," Mahajan said during his visit to Jalgaon.

The minister claimed that governments led by BJP over the past 12 years took a more proactive stance in supporting farmers compared to previous administrations. "It would be better for Rohit to ask his grandfather about their contribution to farmers and loan waivers. Since coming to power, BJP has consistently worked to support the farming community," Mahajan said, in indirect reference to NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar.
