Nashik MLAs Advocate for Enhanced Women's Safety Measures in Meeting with Police Commissioner
In a significant move to bolster security for women and girls in Nashik, local MLAs Devyani Pharande and Seema Hiray held a crucial meeting with Police Commissioner Sandeep Karnik on Saturday. The discussion centered on implementing urgent and effective measures to address the growing concerns over women's safety in the city, particularly in light of recent criminal incidents.
Addressing Security Concerns in Industrial and Educational Sectors
The primary focus of the meeting was to tackle the security environment for women employed in industrial zones and those studying in educational institutions. This initiative comes in response to a series of recent crimes targeting women, which have heightened public anxiety and underscored the need for robust protective mechanisms.
During the deliberations, the MLAs strongly advocated for the adoption of a zero tolerance policy towards crimes against women. "We are determined to ensure zero tolerance regarding crimes against women in Nashik. To achieve this goal, we have formally requested the establishment of a dedicated helpline for women and the launch of widespread public awareness campaigns," Pharande emphasized in a statement to reporters following the meeting.
High-Level Monitoring and Investigative Oversight
In related developments, Pharande highlighted that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is closely monitoring the situation, particularly concerning a recent case involving an IT company. Additionally, Minister Girish Mahajan visited Nashik on Friday to assess the progress of ongoing investigations, indicating the state government's active involvement in addressing these security issues.
Next Steps: Verifying Safety Committee Functionality
The MLAs outlined their subsequent action plan, which includes meeting with District Collector Ayush Prasad. The purpose of this upcoming meeting is to verify whether mandatory safety committees for girls and women are operational in schools and workplaces across the district. This step aims to ensure that existing protocols are being effectively implemented to safeguard women's interests.
The proactive stance taken by the MLAs reflects a broader commitment to creating a safer environment for women in Nashik, with a clear emphasis on accountability and preventive measures.
