Nashik Municipal Corporation Announces Generous 8% Rebate for Early Property Tax Payments

The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has unveiled a significant financial incentive for property owners, offering an 8% rebate to those who clear their entire annual property tax liability in a single instalment during the month of April. This strategic move aims to encourage early payments and bolster municipal revenue streams at the onset of the new financial cycle.

Building on Previous Success with Enhanced Incentives

Civic officials confirmed that this rebate scheme follows the successful model implemented last year, which featured tiered discounts of 3% to 8% during April and June. That initiative proved remarkably effective, enabling NMC to collect over Rs 100 crore in property tax revenue within just the first three months of the 2025-26 financial year.

For taxpayers who choose the convenience of online payment, an additional 1% rebate is available, bringing the total potential benefit to nearly 9% for those making full payment in April. The incentive structure remains attractive throughout the early months: a 6% rebate applies for complete payments made in May, while June payments qualify for a 3% concession.

Ambitious Revenue Targets and Strong Start

NMC officials have set an ambitious target of collecting approximately Rs 125 crore in property tax during the April-June period of the 2026-27 financial year. The campaign has already gained promising momentum, with the civic body receiving Rs 3.5 crore toward pending property tax dues from a government agency in Nashik within the first two days of the new financial year alone.

"Several major defaulters are also expected to clear their outstanding dues this month," revealed a senior NMC official, expressing confidence in the initiative's potential to significantly improve collection rates.

Record Performance and Future Goals

This announcement comes on the heels of NMC's record-breaking performance in the previous financial year, when the corporation collected Rs 287 crore in property tax—the highest amount since its establishment 43 years ago. Building on this achievement, the administration has set an even more ambitious collection target of Rs 385 crore for the current financial year.

In the preceding financial year, NMC exceeded expectations by collecting Rs 256 crore against a projected target of Rs 250 crore. The revised target for 2025-26 was subsequently set at Rs 275 crore, demonstrating consistent growth in revenue collection capabilities.

Expanding the Tax Base and Infrastructure Growth

Municipal authorities are implementing multiple strategies to further enhance property tax revenues, including identifying underutilized properties that currently fall outside the tax net. Nashik city currently boasts approximately 6.22 lakh registered properties distributed across six municipal divisions.

The Panchavati and Cidco divisions together account for nearly 48% of all properties in the city. Particularly noteworthy is the rapid growth in the Cidco division, where registered properties have increased by an impressive 54%—from 97,517 in 2017-18 to nearly 1.49 lakh in 2025-26. This expansion reflects both the city's development and the increasing importance of efficient tax collection mechanisms to support municipal services and infrastructure.
