Nashik Administration Completes Elaborate Preparations for Saptashrungi Devi Yatra
The district administration in Nashik has finalized all arrangements for the upcoming Shri Saptashrungi Devi Chaitra Pournima Yatra, which is scheduled to commence on March 26. Authorities anticipate an overwhelming turnout of approximately 6 lakh pilgrims visiting the sacred shrine throughout the Navaratra Festival period.
Advanced Crowd Control Measures Implemented
To manage the massive influx of devotees effectively, the administration has installed 15 specialized 'hold and release' barriers along the pathways leading to the temple, located 75 kilometers from Nashik city. These barriers are strategically placed to regulate pilgrim flow and prevent dangerous overcrowding at the shrine premises.
Bhagwan Nerkar, Executive Officer of the Saptashrung Niwasini Trust, explained the rationale behind these measures: "We have established 15 hold and release barriers along the stairway approach to the shrine. This system ensures controlled movement of pilgrims, eliminating dangerous rushes and significantly enhancing visitor safety. The arrangement includes two separate designated routes—one for ascending to the temple and another for descending."
Enhanced Pilgrim Amenities and Safety Infrastructure
The administration has erected protective shades along both the approach to and descent from the temple, providing pilgrims with sheltered resting areas and protection from intense sunlight. Additionally, the entire footpath from Nanduri—the base of the hills where many pilgrims begin their walk—has been fully illuminated with lighting that will remain operational 24 hours daily, corresponding with the temple's round-the-clock accessibility during the festival.
Nashik Collector Ayush Prasad, who personally reviewed the preparations, emphasized that police, fire department, and health officials will maintain continuous vigilance across the entire premises, including ghat roads and footpaths. Collector Prasad mandated comprehensive provisions for food, drinking water, sanitation, and reliable electricity supply for all devotees.
"The Collector has directed that alongside constant police patrols, adequate arrangements for essential amenities must be guaranteed," added an officer. "This includes sufficient restrooms, clear directional signboards, wheelchair accessibility, and installation of access ramps wherever necessary."
Transportation and Medical Emergency Protocols
During the yatra period, private vehicles will be prohibited beyond Nanduri, with exceptions granted only for Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) buses. Separate parking facilities are being organized for both MSRTC buses and pilgrims' vehicles to accommodate this restriction.
For medical emergencies, authorities have designated dedicated medical teams, ambulances, and emergency beds at Kalwan Sub-District Hospital. This preparedness ensures prompt medical response capabilities throughout the festival duration.
The comprehensive planning reflects the administration's commitment to facilitating a smooth, safe, and spiritually fulfilling experience for the hundreds of thousands of devotees expected to participate in this significant religious observance.
