NDA Leaders Meet Assam Governor, Stake Claim to Form Gov

Leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) met Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi at Lok Bhavan on Monday to stake their claim to form the new government in the state. The delegation, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, submitted a letter of support from the coalition partners to the Governor.

Coalition Partners Unite

The NDA alliance, which includes the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), and the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL), secured a comfortable majority in the recently concluded Assam assembly elections. The meeting with the Governor was a formality to formalize their claim to power.

Delegation Details

The delegation comprised senior leaders such as state BJP president Bhabesh Kalita, AGP president Atul Bora, and UPPL chief Pramod Boro. They presented the Governor with a list of 75 MLAs supporting the alliance, well above the majority mark of 63 in the 126-member assembly.

Governor Jagdish Mukhi accepted the letter and assured the leaders that he would examine the claim and proceed with the formation of the new government as per constitutional norms. The swearing-in ceremony is expected to take place later this week.

Political Significance

The meeting marks a crucial step in the democratic process, ensuring a smooth transition of power. The NDA's victory in Assam is seen as a validation of its development agenda and governance model in the state. The alliance has promised to focus on infrastructure, healthcare, education, and employment generation in its next term.

Opposition Reaction

The opposition Congress party, which won 29 seats, has yet to comment on the government formation. However, political analysts suggest that the NDA's strong mandate leaves little room for any immediate challenge to its claim.

As the state prepares for the new government, citizens are hopeful for continued progress and stability under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
